Customers at Ballwin's Marshalls to See More Red

See what an update to the exterior of the store in downtown Ballwin reveals about the company's upcoming plans.

Who knew 90s pop songs could be so prophetic?

Marshalls department store in Ballwin had part of one of its signs taken down Tuesday, thanks to plans to install a new one in the coming weeks that will reflect the company's new logo.

The gesture was reminiscent of the classic Ace of Base song "The Sign," which featured the apropos lyric, "I saw the sign and it opened up my mind / and I am happy now living without you." Not since Janis Joplin's "Mercedes Benz" has America heard a wiser commentary on commercialism.

Workers with Bill Yount Signs and Electric who were removing the faces of the old sign on the west side of the building said the letters would traced then reproduced in accordance to the company's new specifications, which include a dash of red to match the front sign, adding another patriotic twist to the company's old white and blue color scheme.

Marshalls is owned by TJX Companies, Inc., which also operates T.J. Maxx and HomeGoods in the U.S., as well as Winners and Homesense in Canada, and T.K. Maxx in Ireland, the U.K., Germany and Poland.
