Man Tried to Rob Ellisville Shop 'N Save

A man attempted to steal several bottles of liquor this weekend before the merchandise was either recovered or broken in an altercation with store employees.

A man tried to rob a Shop N’ Save grocery store in Ellisville on Friday, at one point wielding a liquor bottle like a club before he fled the scene.

The incident took place around 5:10 p.m. Friday at located at 15446 Manchester Road, where a man attempted to steal four liquor bottles before security intervened.

The subject, described as an African American male between 6’2” and 6’5” with short black hair and weighing about 300 pounds, was wearing tan khaki shorts and a green-and-black Hawaiian print shirt, police said.

After placing the four bottles beneath his shirt and exiting to the parking lot, the subject was approached by an employee who identified himself as store security, police said. Shortly after, two additional employees approached the man.

“And that’s when (the subject) raised the bottle and threatened them and said something about ‘You want a piece of me?’, dropped one of the bottles and ran,” Sgt. Nancy Walker said.

Walker said all four of the bottles were either grabbed by employees and recovered or broken during the exchange. The recovered alcohol was valued at $104.
