Mother of Ballwin Cardinal-designate: Dolan 'Born to be a Priest'
Shirley Dolan, mother of New York Archbishop Timothy Dolan of Ballwin, said in a New York Daily News feature that her young son used to head make-believe masses.
Timothy M. Dolan, the Archbishop of New York who was selected last month to become a Cardinal, may have been following the path to priesthood long before most people expected.
In a Sunday feature in the New York Daily News, his mother, Shirley Dolan of Ballwin, said her son as a young boy would even attempt to deliver communion—a practice that wasn't well received by his siblings and play-parishioners:
The Dolan kids “were so sick of eating bread,” recalled their mom, 83-year-old Shirley. “They didn’t even know why they ate it.”
will make him a senior ecclesiastical figure within the Catholic Church, and make him a member of the College of Cardinals, whose responsibilities include naming a successor to the pope.
According to the Catholic Archdiocese of New York, Dolan will officially be elevated to the title of Cardinal at a ceremony on February 18 at St. Peter's Basilica in Vatican City.
