Parkway West High Earns Jostens' National Yearbook Design Recognition

The PAWESEHI was one of only 425 yearbooks selected from approximately 3,000.

Parkway West High School’s yearbook, PAWESEHI, was just recognized for excellence, and featured in the 2013 Gotcha Covered Look Book, Volume 11—a book that celebrates the best-of-the-best in yearbook design and coverage from scholastic memories' national company Jostens.

Jostens Look Book is a collection of spreads and photos and their creative themes, cool covers, dazzling designs, relevant coverage, story-telling copy and action-packed photography, said Debra Klevens, Parkway West High School yearbook adviser.

Along with design excellence, the annually published Look Book honors the important role well-crafted yearbooks play in helping schools chronicle the experiences, stories and achievements most relevant to students and that academic year.

“Every year is a new journey, but I continue to be blessed with remarkable talent,” Klevens said.

She said the yearbook program operates from the mission statement: “A yearbook for students, about students and by students.”

The 2013 panel of judges, comprised of nationally recognized scholastic journalism professionals and award-winning yearbook advisers, selected the best examples of yearbook spreads and covers to make up the 352-page 2013 Look Book, Klevens said.

“Yearbooks are unique, limited edition books created by students to capture the stories and events for all of the school’s students, and Jostens is proud to celebrate the yearbook tradition and the 425 yearbooks selected for the 2013 Gotcha Covered Look Book, said John Dalke, Look Book editor.

Debra Klevens and her yearbook staff received a copy of Jostens 2013 Gotcha Covered Look Book and plaque from Jostens to recognize their outstanding achievement.
