Rain Cancellation? Not This Picnic

Friends and co-workers gathered at Vlasis Park on Friday afternoon despite a downpour that started late morning.

Singing in the rain may have gone out of style, but slipping and sliding was the order of the day Friday.

A few dozen parents and kids met at Vlasis Park in Ballwin for an annual picnic hosted by Stone Technologies, an engineering firm based in Chesterfield, although rain forecast through the weekend may have resulted in some no-shows.

The adults present stayed dry under a park pavillion with grilled food and drinks, but the adjacent inflatable playhouse was too good to pass up for some of the younger visitors.

Wildwood resident Mary Lynne Henning, 56, said dozens more were expected at the picnic, which was scheduled to happen rain or shine.

"We were going to have it come hell or high water," Henning said with a smile. "And we got the high water, so nothing else is stopping us."
