Restaurant Review Round-Up: Barney's Bar-B-Q

Known as the "Little Red Shack" in West County, Barney's Bar-B-Q celebrates 50 years in business this year at its location on Manchester Road in Ellisville. The restaurant's website says it will start its 50th season on May 25. Barney's is only open during the summer on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

Gregory P. said: "Many of the reviews for Barney's BBQ don't give it justice but I can honestly say that my family has been going for years and we are always going back. This particular visit was their last Saturday of the season. We were able to snag their last slab of ribs to go, along with an order of their beans. We were not disappointed when we ate into both later that night."

Tom D. said: "The meat was not covered in sauce, and not too salty, but very tasty. The slaw could have been more fresh, but the recipe was tasty. Beans and potato salad were fresh and good."

Food Rater said: "I just went to Barney's for some BBQ. Have not been so disapointed in BBQ in a long while. Pork Steak is thin as copy paper and simply dry... Ribs not tender and the flavour so weak."

ahpuch said: "Had to write a review because the only other one painted such a terrible picture I didn't think it was fair to Barney's. I've only eaten there once but my experience was good and I will be going back. I think BBQ is an art form. I love cooking and eating it.I ordered the pulled pork plate and a full slab ribs. The ribs I got were untrimmed spare ribs cooked excellently: good smoke penetration and texture."
