In Rockwood, we strive to do whatever it takes to ensure all students realize their potential. Our goal is to
PDFcultivate Rockwood learners who think creatively and critically; engage thoughtfully and respectfully; develop strong character; collaborate with others; and explore our world. Over the final month of the 2020-2021 school year, we are celebrating fifth-, eighth- and 12th-grade students from around Rockwood who embody these characteristics and reflect the hopes, dreams and aspirations we hold for every child in our school community. Today, we feature Uthoff Valley Elementary fifth-grader Abigail Bell. -----Some of Abigail Bell's favorite memories from her time at Uthoff Valley Elementary have come from collaborating with her friends. In first grade, when her teacher Liz Schenck was named school Teacher of the Year, her whole class learned an Irish dance to perform in front of the entire school to celebrate. Abigail and a friend performed a solo.Over the past two years, Abigail and her friends have led donation drives to benefit the community. Last year, they collected nearly 900 items for Rockwood Gives Back. This year, they collected nearly 1,000 scarves and hats to donate to cancer patients in memory of former assistant principal Kim Harrick, who passed away from cancer."The Harrick's Hats drive one made me happy and feel good about her and everyone," Abigail said. "It was really fun doing the Rockwood Gives Back drive, too."As she heads to Rockwood South Middle next year, Abigail plans to expand her educational horizons through courses such as Family and Consumer Sciences, Digital Ignition and Art Studio. She loves to paint and draw. Abigail said she is grateful for educators such as Schenck, Jeanne Gilbert, Jennifer Williams, Lorie Ziegler, Amanda Wills and Christina Layfield for helping make her Uthoff Valley experience so enjoyable."Mrs. Layfield can be serious when we need to be, but she can also be funny and make a joke when she needs to or make us stretch if we're just sitting there like slouches," Abigail said. "I'm going to miss my teachers for sure. It's a really good school. I had a really good time."
