In Rockwood, we strive to do whatever it takes to ensure all students realize their potential. Our goal is to PDFcultivate Rockwood learners who think creatively and critically; engage thoughtfully and respectfully; develop strong character; collaborate with others; and explore our world. Over the final month of the 2020-2021 school year, we will be celebrating fifth-, eighth- and 12th-grade students from around Rockwood who embody these characteristics and reflect the hopes, dreams and aspirations we hold for every child in our school community. Today, we feature Lafayette High senior Kathryn Wenger.-----For Kathryn Wenger, four years at Lafayette High served as the perfect opportunity to try out the many and varied classes, clubs and activities that caught her interest."High school is a wonderful place to grow, meet new people and find your passions," she said. "With so many course offerings, activities and clubs, there is something for everyone. Don't be afraid to put yourself out there and get involved."At Lafayette, Wenger played cello in the school orchestra, ran for the Lancers' cross country and track teams and participated on the swim team. She helped welcome new students to the school as a Link Crew Leader and volunteered with National Honor Society, Key Club and the Special Olympics. She served on the executive board of the Lafayette HOSA Future Health Professionals club and plans to attend the University of Missouri Honors College to study biochemistry on a pre-med track."My favorite experience in HOSA was attending the state and international leadership conferences," Wenger said. "It was inspiring to hear the U.S. Surgeon General speak and learn from other incredible healthcare speakers. I enjoyed attending the conference with friends who also are passionate about medicine."As she prepares for the next phase in her life, Wenger is grateful that she took her own advice and made the most of her time at Lafayette."I am going to miss the Lafayette community," she said. "There are high expectations set for students and staff, yet everyone greets every challenge with enthusiasm, optimism and support for one another. Lafayette is truly a school family. The teachers in Rockwood are extraordinary and passionate in striving to ensure every student's success."
