In Rockwood, we strive to do whatever it takes to ensure all students realize their potential. Our goal is to
PDFcultivate Rockwood learners who think creatively and critically; engage thoughtfully and respectfully; develop strong character; collaborate with others; and explore our world. Over the final month of the 2020-2021 school year, we will be celebrating fifth-, eighth- and 12th-grade students from around Rockwood who embody these characteristics and reflect the hopes, dreams and aspirations we hold for every child in our school community. Today, we feature Babler Elementary fifth-grader Kyle Skaggs. -----Kyle Skaggs is looking forward to the perks that come along with moving from elementary school to middle school: more class choices, more frequent movement throughout the campus, a greatly expanded menu of available lunch items. One challenge he'll have to contend with: more complicated blueprints."I'm kind of nervous because I feel like I'm going to get lost," said the Babler Elementary fifth-grader. "I'm not good with directions."He'll have the Rockwood Valley Middle staff on hand to help him out with that, along with knowledge passed on from two older sisters who attended Rockwood Valley.Kyle has proven himself as a class leader at Babler, according to his teachers, someone who takes care of his peers and takes advantage of all learning opportunities. His favorite school subject is math, and he keeps a busy schedule outside of school between soccer, baseball, basketball, volleyball and riding his bike with friends. And, of course, the ongoing pingpong saga with his dad."We have heated battles," Kyle said. "When we play best-of-three, I normally win one and he wins two."As he moves on from Babler, Kyle is going to remember all the fun times he had with his teachers and classmates, such as the weekly Friday dance parties in Michaelanne Wathen's second-grade class."The whole grade would go out in the hall – because we had the whole second floor to ourselves – so we would go out there, play music and start dancing," Kyle said.
