In Rockwood, we strive to do whatever it takes to ensure all students realize their potential. Our goal is to
PDFcultivate Rockwood learners who think creatively and critically; engage thoughtfully and respectfully; develop strong character; collaborate with others; and explore our world. Over the final month of the 2020-2021 school year, we are celebrating fifth-, eighth- and 12th-grade students from around Rockwood who embody these characteristics and reflect the hopes, dreams and aspirations we hold for every child in our school community. Today, we feature Wildwood Middle eighth-grader Tyler Srsen. -----When Tyler Srsen was in sixth grade at Wildwood Middle, he and his classmates raised the most money during a fundraiser and won the opportunity to deliver a pie to the face of a teacher of their choosing. They chose language arts teacher Carol Traynor, but Tyler decided he wanted to flip the script."I offered to Mrs. Traynor that she could pie me in the face instead, and she took me up on it," Tyler said. "I ended up getting pied in the face in front of the entire school. It was an event to remember."As he prepares to move on to Eureka High next year, Tyler cherishes the relationships he has built with students and staff in three years at Wildwood. He will remember getting to say hello to his mother, Kerri, an SSD teacher at Wildwood, every day, receiving a warm daily hello from Child Nutrition Services worker Elisabeth Lamb and talking sports with Spanish teacher Jennifer Porter and social studies teacher Jeff Cooper. The conversations with Cooper took on extra intensity because Tyler is an Ohio State fan, and Cooper is a fan of rival Michigan."I attended a private school through fifth grade, and I never once felt like I didn't belong once I started in Rockwood," Tyler said. "I am super excited to explore the opportunities available to me at Eureka as well as continue to work towards acceptance to THE Ohio State University."Tyler's teachers, in turn, appreciate the positive contributions he made during his time at Wildwood."Tyler consistently builds a sense of community with his peers and communicates in a respectful and responsible way with every adult at Wildwood," they said.
