Thursday Launches Ballwin's Seat Belt Push

The seat belt safety campaign, which coincides with similar efforts by Missouri State Police, lasts through the end of March.

If the afternoon's rain isn't reason enough to buckle up in Ballwin, the kicks off a campaign Thursday targeting drivers and passengers, particularly young ones, who don't wear their seatbelts.

The campaign lasts through March 31, when Ballwin police aim to "crack down" on seat belt safety with "an aggressive youth seat belt mobilization."

Ballwin police said in a written statement that "only 67 percent of Missouri teens wear their seat belts when driving or riding in a motor vehicle," and that "(e)ight out of ten teens killed in traffic crashes are unbuckled."
