Chesterfield City Council Says Seasonal Signs Are OK
A local mall has asked the city for permission to erect seasonal decorations, including an inflatable pumpkin and a Christmas tree.

The Chesterfield City Council voted earlier this month to allow temporary seasonal decorations, including inflatable pumpkins and Christmas trees, at the Taubman Prestige Outlets mall. The displays are intended to advertise a local pumpkin patch and other seasonal events. A lawyer for the mall said the displays would be tasteful and temporary, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported.
The report continued:
[The displays] won't be permitted after Dec. 31. Council members removed a proposal for an inflatable to be placed along Interstate 64.
The original proposal was for four 96-square-foot signs and four inflatables but the commission mandated only two signs, two inflatables, and a large Christmas tree with lights on the mall property. All lights could operate only from 9 a.m.-9 p.m.
The city is considering a moratorium on signs and other displays until the council can order a review of codes currently on the books.
