A woman parked her vehicle in the garage of her office building Monday afternoon. When she left for home Monday night, she noticed it was producing a loud noise. Tuesday morning, she responded to a repair shop where she learned her catalytic converter had been stolen.
Later Tuesday morning, a convenience store employee reported she received a call from someone impersonating loss prevention. The fraudster instructed her to provide information on nearly $2,000 worth of gift cards before the employee suspected it was a scam & ended the call. An investigation is ongoing.
Wednesday morning, officers arrested a man for trespassing at the Clayton Plaza Hotel after hotel staff found him hiding in the restroom. The man had been previously banned from the hotel & has a lengthy history of trespassing at other local hotels.
A woman returned to her vehicle Wednesday afternoon & discovered someone shattered the rear cargo window with an unknown object. She parked the vehicle in the parking garage of her office building at 9 am & discovered the damage at approximately 4 pm. At the time of this report, no witnesses or suspects have been identified.
Officers responded to a home under construction Thursday morning. The contractor reported he arrived at the site at approximately 7:30 am & found several thousands of dollars’ worth of materials had been stolen from the property's detached garage. The items were last seen Wednesday afternoon & an investigation is ongoing.
Just after midnight Friday morning, officers responded to the area of DeMun & Alamo for reports of a suspicious vehicle in the area. A resident in the 6300 block of Alamo reported hearing what sounded like power tools & seeing a white pickup truck stopped in the middle of the roadway. The vehicle fled the area before officers arrived. When the resident started her vehicle later Friday morning, it made a very loud noise. She took it to a repair shop where it was determined the catalytic converter had been stolen.
The theft of catalytic converters is on the rise again in our area. Thieves recycle the parts for their scrap metals, but the theft can cause expensive damage to your vehicle. SUVs & trucks are often targeted because the height of the vehicles makes the converters easier to access. You can help prevent these thefts by parking in a secured garage or well-lighted areas. After-market anti-theft devices are available, but you should consult your vehicle manufacturer or mechanic for information on appropriate prevention & anti-theft options.
A man reported three stackable toolboxes containing hand & power tools were stolen from the bed of his pickup truck Friday morning. The man reported the truck was parked in a garage in the 7700 block of Bonhomme Ave. for approximately 10 minutes. A witness reported seeing a man walking southbound on S. Hanley Rd. carrying what may have been the toolboxes. A short time later, a contractor reported a toolbox containing power tools was stolen from a home under construction in the 7700 block of Country Club Ct. Both thefts occurred between 7:30 am & 9 am.
Friday evening, a resident was alerted to an attempted fraudulent credit card purchase when he received an email stating he had an order ready for pick up at an out of state Walmart. Walmart informed him the item could be retrieved by his wife or a subject neither of them knows. They were able to cancel the order & contacted their credit card company to deactivate their cards. At the time of this report, both he & his wife were still in possession of their cards & it is unclear when, where, or how their information was compromised. This is a great reminder to monitor your financial statements continuously & to report any fraudulent activity as soon as possible.
While patrolling the central business district late Friday night, officers found two men urinating in an alley. Both men were issued summonses through the Clayton Municipal Court for urinating in public.
An early morning traffic stop in the area of S. Brentwood Blvd. & Shaw Park Dr. Saturday resulted in the driver's arrest for DWI & possession of a fake ID.
Finally, officers responded to a local hotel Sunday night for a report of a domestic disturbance. Upon their arrival, officers met with both parties separately. The woman had visible injuries & reported her boyfriend had physically assaulted her & prevented her escape while in the hotel's laundry room. Hotel surveillance verified the woman's account & the man was arrested. Warrants were applied for & he was charged with Domestic Assault 2nd degree, a felony & Domestic Assault 3rd degree & Kidnapping 3rd degree. He remains in the custody of the St. Louis County Justice Center on a cash-only bond.
The CPD reminds you to make your #9pmRoutine habits work for you all day, every day. No matter where you are, never leave valuables, keys, or remotes in your vehicles & secure your home & garage even while you're home.
Until next week, stay safe!
