Clayton Weekly Police Incident Report: June 14-20

Officers responded to 353 calls for service, including 12 automobile accidents.

For the reporting period of Monday, June 14th – Sunday, June 20th, CPD officers responded to 353 calls for service. Those calls included 12 automobile accidents & 22 calls to assist the CFD. Among those calls were the following incidents:

The vehicle reported as stolen from San Bonita last week was recovered Monday afternoon. St. Louis County officers found the SUV abandoned in Jennings.

Officers responded to DOS Monday evening after a woman stole clothing from the store. Employees contacted the woman outside of the store & recovered the merchandise. She was issued a summons for shoplifting & the store owners informed her she is no longer welcome in the shop.

Just after midnight Wednesday, surveillance cameras recorded as 2 men walked through a parking garage in the 8000 block of Bonhomme. As they approached the parking gate, one of the men walked around the gate. The other chose to squeeze between the parking gate arm & a concrete wall, breaking the arm. As of this time, the men have not been identified.

Later Wednesday morning, a woman was exiting her vehicle in the 100 block of S. Meramec when a man approached her & asked if she wanted to "make money." He proceeded to fully expose himself to her. The victim recognized the man & provided officers with his name & description. He was found attempting to hide in some nearby shrubbery & was arrested for Sexual Misconduct 1st Degree. The same man was charged with Sexual Misconduct earlier this month for exposing himself to CPD female officers following his arrest for Petty Larceny.

A 2nd woman later reported she was walking on S. Meramec early Wednesday morning when the man began following her. While concealing his hands inside his pants, he made suggestive gestures & directed several explicitly sexual remarks toward her. As a result of his behavior, he was charged with an additional count of Sexual Misconduct 1st Degree. The case was presented to the St. Louis County Prosecutor's office & a warrant was issued with a bond of $5,000.

While making a delivery to a restaurant in the 8100 block of Maryland Ave., a driver parked his truck at the loading dock, temporarily blocking the alleyway. As he unloaded supplies, he was confronted by a man who was upset his route was impeded. The irritated driver exited his vehicle & yelled at the victim before deliberately spitting in his face. A passerby witnessed the incident & confirmed the victim's account. The man has been identified & has an upcoming court date through the Clayton Municipal Court.

Following a softball game Wednesday night, 6 teammates returned to their vehicles & discovered someone damaged the vehicles by breaking out a window on each of the cars. Among the items stolen were a set of Apple AirPods, sunglasses, a gym bag & a purse. The investigation is ongoing.

In early March, a man rented a vehicle from Hertz with the agreement he would return it 8 days later. When he failed to return the car on time, the company unsuccessfully attempted to independently recover it from his last known address. Thursday, Hertz employees officially requested assistance from the CPD & the vehicle was entered as a Failure to Return.

Officers responded to the central business district early Saturday morning after bar employees found a subject sleeping at an outdoor dining table. Officers contacted the man & discovered he was highly intoxicated. For his safety, he was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

While conducting a traffic stop Sunday morning, officers learned the driver was wanted by Maryland Heights PD for stealing. She was arrested & transferred into their custody.

A traffic stop on I-170 Sunday evening resulted in the driver's arrest for possession of marijuana. He has an upcoming court date through the Clayton Municipal Court.

Finally, Saturday night, a man left CJ Muggs without paying his tab. When he returned Sunday night, employees called for assistance in removing him from the bar. After speaking with the man, officers escorted him to & from his nearby hotel, where he retrieved a form of payment.
