Clayton Weekly Police Incident Report: May 24-30

Officers responded to 431 calls for service, including 12 automobile accidents and 25 calls to assist the fire department.

For the reporting period of Monday, May 24th – Sunday, May 30th, CPD officers responded to 431 calls for service, including 12 automobile accidents & 25 calls to assist the CFD. Among those calls were the following incidents:

A resident in the 6300 block of S. Rosebury discovered someone attempted to steal his vehicle over the weekend. The truck was left unlocked & the interior was rummaged through. Nothing of value was taken; however, the vehicle’s ignition was damaged, leaving the vehicle inoperable.

While at work Monday morning, a woman received multiple purchase alerts from her financial institution. As she checked into the fraudulent purchases, she found her wallet was missing from her purse. Before work, she’d purchased items at a local convenience store & believes she may have dropped her wallet inside the store. An investigation is ongoing.

Later Monday morning, a resident of an apartment in the 200 block of S. Brentwood left his unit unsecured while he attended an appointment. When he returned home, he discovered someone had locked his apartment door. Upon entering his home, he found his belongings had been rummaged through & a money clip & cash were missing.

Officers received reports of an erratic driver in the area of I-170 & Forest Park Parkway early Wednesday morning. A traffic stop of the vehicle & an on-scene investigation led to the arrest of the driver for DWI.

Wednesday afternoon, a resident of the 200 block of S. Brentwood reported a ring was missing from her apartment. She suspects the jewelry was stolen Tuesday while a building representative & a service technician were in her apartment.

After leaving the Center of Clayton Wednesday evening, a resident realized his wallet was missing. Thinking he’d inadvertently dropped it, he returned to the Center but could not find his belongings. While canceling his credit/debit cards, he learned someone had used one of the cards to make over $500 in fraudulent purchases. The investigation continues.

A man contacted the CPD Friday morning after discovering fraudulent activity on his bank account. While reviewing his financial statements, he found someone used a Clayton ATM to withdraw over $600 from his account in mid-May. He has never visited Clayton & is still in possession of his debit card. It is unknown when or how his card was compromised.

Finally, Walgreen’s employees contacted the CPD early Saturday morning after witnessing a woman conceal merchandise in a reusable shopping bag. While walking through the store, the woman placed items in both the bag & her cart. She attempted to purchase the items from the cart; however, her payment was declined. She discarded the merchandise & exited the store with the bagged items. Officers contacted the woman & confirmed she had stolen the items in the bag. The merchandise, valued at over $300, was returned to the store & the woman was arrested for shoplifting. She has an upcoming court date through the Clayton Municipal court.
