Clayton Weekly Police Incident Report: Oct. 26-Nov. 1

A man was arrested on burglary charges following break-in at commercial building in the 7700 block of Carondelet Avenue.

For the reporting period of Monday, October 26th through Sunday, November 1st, CPD officers responded to 379 calls for service, including 24 automobile accidents & 30 calls to assist the CFD. Among those calls were the following:

In the early morning hours Sunday, a man stole art supplies from CVS without making any attempt to pay for the items.

Just before 3 am Tuesday, a CPD officer was on patrol in the 6300 block of N. Rosebury when he observed an adult male with a backpack riding a child's bicycle down the street. Officers contacted the man & discovered the bicycle was stolen. The backpack was filled with various items stolen from Walgreens. The man was arrested for the thefts & the stolen merchandise was returned to Walgreens. The bicycle was seized as evidence. If you believe the bicycle is yours, please contact the CPD.

Later Tuesday morning, a man bypassed all purchase points as he pushed a cart filled with Red Bull cases out of CVS. Employees witnessed the suspect load the stolen merchandise into the bed of an older model pickup truck before entering the passenger side. A short time later, the vehicle was involved in an accident in St. Louis City. The thief was taken into custody & charged with the theft from CVS.

Tuesday evening, a bank employee contacted a senior living center in Edwardsville, IL, after discovering two checks were fraudulently cashed against the business' account. Two unknown men presented the checks to the bank's Clayton branch in return for cash. When they attempted to cash a 3rd check, the bank refused the transaction. The investigation is ongoing.

Surveillance cameras captured a man stealing a laptop from an office in the 200 block of S. Central Wednesday afternoon. He was last seen leaving the area in a silver Buick sedan.

A traffic stop in the area of S. Brentwood & Forsyth Wednesday night led to the driver's arrest for DWI.

A resident of the 8000 block of Bonhomme reported someone stole an Apple watch from his unlocked vehicle sometime overnight Wednesday or early Thursday morning.

Sometime between Friday afternoon & the early morning hours of Saturday, an unknown subject struck a parked vehicle on Broadview & fled the accident scene. The damage was discovered by an officer patrolling the neighborhood. An investigation is ongoing.

Later Saturday morning, officers responded to a burglar alarm at a commercial building in the 7700 block of Carondelet Ave. Arriving officers observed a man walking away from the building's parking garage toward a local hotel. A search of the building revealed force had been used to make entry into one of the building's suites. Following additional investigation, the man was located & arrested at a nearby hotel. The case was presented to the St. Louis County PA's office & warrants were issued for burglary 2nd & property damage 2nd with a cash-only bond of $75,000.

A vehicle reportedly stolen from Florissant was recovered early Sunday morning when a resident in the 900 block of Crescent reported a vehicle abandoned in the roadway.

A traffic stop in the area of Clayton Rd. & Clayshire Sunday morning resulted in the arrest of the driver for DWI. This was the driver's 5th alcohol-related driving offense.

Finally, officers arrested a man for trespassing Sunday afternoon after he was found sleeping in the restroom of an office building in the 100 block of S. Bemiston.
