News Nearby: Great Harvest Bakery to Move to Maplewood in May
The owners of the whole wheat bakery have been in business since 2003 in Olivette.
After one false-start, the owners of the Great Harvest Bread in Olivette said they are ready to relocate to Maplewood sometime around Mother’s Day.
Owners Steve and Alecia Jawor said business had been building over eight years, but went flat the last two. Also, their landlord wouldn’t reduce their rent. Steve Jawor said Maplewood officials enticed them to move into a food district with incentives like forgivable loans and signage reimbursement.
Jawor said he’s sad to leave Olivette, but optimistic about moving to Maplewood.

“All of the mayors, City Manager Mike McDowell, Public Works Director Mike Gartenberg, Police Chief Knox were always so supportive of everything we did,” he said. “We just want to thank them and all the residents. Without them, we wouldn’t have survived 10 years.”
The new store will be at 7360 Manchester Road between Las Palmas and Eddie’s Guitars. Pro Sound, the current lessee, is moving into the lower level of the building.
“The whole concept of Great Harvest is that of a community bakery,” Jawor said. “The breads we are baking are all influenced by the people who come in to buy it.”
The biggest roadblock is moving the enormous oven. Jawor said he’s trading in his old one for a new one for the Maplewood bakery.
La Cosecha Coffee Roasters will join Great Harvest as sub-tenants and operating a coffee bar, addition to the Great Harvest whole wheat bakery.
