Severe Weather Cancels 2012 Saint Louis Art Fair Opening Night

The major Clayton festival will resume at 11 a.m. Saturday in downtown.

Severe weather canceled the opening night of the 2012 Saint Louis Art Fair on Friday. The festival is set to resume its normal schedule at 11 a.m. Saturday.

Volunteers and officers went from booth to booth just after 5 p.m. encouraging people to take shelter.

Strong winds, heavy rains and lightning picked up shortly thereafter. Dozens of cars snaked away from downtown along corridors such as Maryland Avenue and Hanley Road.

A severe thunderstorm watch remains in effect until 10 p.m., the National Weather Service reported.
