Sip Salon, a Cocoa Bar and Beauty Salon, Planned in Clayton

The business on Forsyth Boulevard would offer cocoa and coffee, along with scones, bagels and other food.

A new business in downtown Clayton plans to serve as both a cocoa bar and a beauty salon.

Sip Salon, 7818 Forsyth Blvd., is owned by Sharon Hall. The larger, 800-square-foot section of the building would feature seating for eight people and sell cocoa and coffee, along with scones, bagels and other food items, a memo from City Manager Craig Owens and planning director Susan Istenes states. The smaller, 150-square-foot section would feature a beauty salon.

Additional seating for six people would be available in a common hallway. The two services would be separated by a glass-paneled wall.

The facility eventually would be open from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily.

In a letter to Mayor Linda Goldstein and members of the Clayton Board of Aldermen, Hall said she has designed and opened four hair salons and a coffee shop in Clayton since 1980.

"One salon and the coffee house were next door to each other and everyone loved the convenience of both services and each complemented the other," Hall wrote. "I plan the same concept, except the focus will be on cocoa drinks. Using the same space separated with floor-to-ceiling walls with glass panels to let natural light in the salon. Sharing the overhead makes financial sense in this economy, and people tend to like small personalized service."

Alter Ego previously operated in the space.
