Man Surrenders After North County 'Officer-Involved Shooting'

The police officer suffered a non-life threatening head injury. The suspect was not injured.

ST. LOUIS COUNTY, MO — Police in north St. Louis County say an officer fired her gun at a suspect near Burrwood Drive and Lucas & Hunt Road Tuesday morning. A tactical operations unit headed to the scene after the man fled, barricading himself into a nearby apartment.

The shooting happened around 11 a.m. after the officer saw a 46-year-old man who was wanted for parole violations related to a robbery. Authorities said the man took the officer's stun gun and the officer suffered a non-life threatening head injury in a struggle immediately before she drew her weapon and fired.

The shot missed and the man was not injured, police said. He surrendered to police around 3 p.m.

Authorities said the officer was in uniform and driving a marked police car. She has six years of experience with the St. Louis County Police Department.

Multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Woodson Terrace, Velda City, St. John, Breckenridge Hills, Bel-Ridge and St. Louis County police departments responded to the shooting.
