Crisis Nursery Receives $40,000 Grant For Health Screenings

Dana Brown Charitable Trust funds screenings

St. Louis, MO –The Saint Louis Crisis Nursery is honored to be the recipient of a $40,000 grant from the Dana Brown Charitable Trust for the Crisis Nursery’s Keeping Kids Safe - Promoting Healthy Development project. This project provides medical, developmental and behavioral health screenings for 1,000 children to detect and treat conditions like ear and respiratory infections, malnutrition, diaper rash, or old injuries not previously identified or treated.

Each of the children who stay at a Crisis Nursery location for 36 to 72 hours receives a medical exam by a physician or nurse practitioner. For 82% of these children, it is their first medical exam in a year or more. The Keeping Kids Safe - Promoting Healthy Development project provides early identification of physical, developmental, and behavioral health concerns. By treating these conditions early, lifelong adverse consequences can be prevented.

“This generous grant from the Dana Brown Charitable Trust is so important to the children and families served by the Saint Louis Crisis Nursery,” said DiAnne Mueller, Crisis Nursery CEO. “Many of our families encounter obstacles when trying to access the health care system, so these medical screenings help our families when they need it most.”
