Dr. Bryan Pearlman Releases New Book "Maslow Before Bloom"
This book helps educators & families to support children who have experienced trauma, struggle at school or exhibit challenging behaviors.

Maslow Before Bloom: Basic Human Needs Before Academics, is the new book written by veteran educator, mental health therapist, and keynote speaker Dr. Bryan Pearlman. The book is designed to help educators and parents to support children who have experienced trauma, struggle at school or exhibit challenging behaviors. It is the second book written by Dr. Pearlman.
Dr. Pearlman shares his reasons for writing the book, "I struggled a great deal when I was a student. The work was either way too easy or too hard. Additionally, I had great difficulty focusing and staying on-task. I really did not enjoy going to school at all. I promised myself that one day I would become an educator to help students like me to be successful. I have included almost thirty years worth of experiences and stories in the book."
The book shares many real-world stories, interventions, and strategies that can be implemented right away. Dr. Pearlman has spent the past two years working with schools, districts, and organizations all over the country. He shares what this experience has been like, "It has been an amazing journey traveling to over 25 states so far. I have had the honor and privilege of meeting and working with over 40,000 educators. A common thread found all over the country is that student are coming to school with far more needs than in the past. Unfortunately, most educators have not had enough training in trauma, mental health challenges, and extreme behaviors. My hope is that this book will help educators to best support their students. We can really help to positively change a child's life trajectory!"

Dr. Pearlman is concerned about the impact of the pandemic on students, staff, and families, "I wrote 90% of this book before anyone, including myself, even knew what COVID-19 was. The information covered in this book will be of great benefit to everyone as we plan for schools to reopen in the fall. Together, we will need to be prepared for the number of people who were isolated, those with heightened anxiety, and a major increase of those dealing with the effects of trauma."
