11 Homes Selected for 2013 Florissant Beautiful Home Awards

The new honorees were honored during the June 10 City Council meeting.

A few houses in Florissant are truly showcasing the beauty of the Valley of Flowers.

Eleven homes were recently selected for the 2013 Beautiful Home Awards. One house is selected from each of the nine wards for the honor as well as one called the Mayor’s Choice. This year, Ward 6 had a tie between two homes.

Housing and Community Development Director Carol O’Mara said the purpose of the program is to celebrate the American Dream of homeownership.

The program, which was started in 2000, allows for residents to nominate homes that are owner-occupied, single-family dwelling. After the nomination period, the 14-member citizen participation committee selects the winners, while the Community Development Department oversees the entire award process.

The award winners receive a sign in their yard for four weeks to show that they are a “Beautiful Home” award winner, City Council recognition and a certificate. Each home was honored at the June 10 City Council meeting.
