Free Mobile Wi-Fi Hotspots At St. Louis Libraries

Patrons will be able to check Wi-Fi hotspots out just like books, providing free internet access for up to 14 days at a time.

FLORISSANT, MO — Starting Dec. 15, St. Louis City and St. Louis County Libraries will offer free mobile Wi-Fi hotspots that can be checked out just like books for up to 14 days at a time. The devices allow users to connect to the internet no matter where they are — at home, on the bus, or at the park. Each hotspot can connect to up to 10 devices at once, and they can be checked out by any adult with a library card. They can even be renewed for an additional two weeks if there is no waiting list.

The hotspots are completely free to use, but will start to accrue fines once they become overdue. Fines are $1 per day or $100 if the device is lost, damaged, or more than 45 days overdue. Content is not filtered and the library does not collect information on usage data, according to the library's website. Internet access is provided by Sprint.

The city and county have each purchased only 30 of the devices, and demand is expected to be high, so if you're interested, reserve yours as early as possible on Friday.
