Gunman Pleads Guilty, Sentenced in Florissant Councilman Shooting

Evan Lockhart receives 30 years for shooting of Maryland Heights Officer Joe Eagan.

As a trial was scheduled to start Monday morning, the man arrested as the gunman for the shooting of a police officer had a change of heart.

Evan Lockhart had been arrested and charged with assault of a police officer, attempted robbery and two counts of armed criminal action in the 2010 shooting of Maryland Heights detective and Ward 3 Florissant Councilman Joe Eagan.

Lockhart pleaded guilty Monday morning to all of the charges and received 30 years for the assault, 30 years for one armed criminal action, and 15 years on the attempted robbery and armed criminal action, said Edward Magee, a spokesman for the St. Louis County prosecutor's office. He said all of the sentences will be run concurrently.

Two others involved in the shooting, Marquise Lockhart and Tevionne Taylor, both of St. Louis, pleaded guilty to assaulting a police officer, attempted robbery and armed criminal action. They each were sentenced to 10 years in prison.

Marquise is Evan’s brother.
