New Show, Blood Drive Happening in Florissant This Weekend

- Florissant Civic Center Theater will present the musical, “The Secret Garden,” starting Friday, Aug. 2. The show runs through Aug. 11. Tickets are $18 for adults and $16 for seniors and students.
- For parents looking to save a few bucks on the 2013-2014 school year, then they cash in on the state’s sales tax holiday. Aug. 2-4, parents can purchase anything from clothes to computers and be exempt from the sales tax. Florissant and Hazelwood are participants in the 2013 sales tax holiday.
- Families can shop and enjoy themselves early Saturday morning at the Ferguson Farmer’s Market. In the special events tent this week, the market will feature Sugar Creek Piedmontese Beef Sample Fest, which will have samples and recipes for shoppers to enjoy. Of course, the market will also feature a number of other vendors with fruits, vegetables and food that you can buy. The market is open 8 a.m.-noon at 20 S. New Florissant Road.
- To get the school year started off right, the Hazelwood School District will host its annual Back-to-School Fair at St. Louis Outlet Mall, Saturday, Aug. 3. Schools’ booths will provide information on clubs, activities, uniform policies and supplies, while district departments present information on transportation, food and nutrition and more. The fair takes place between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. It’s open to all students and parents in the Hazelwood School District.
- The American Red Cross and KSHE 95 will host a two-day blood drive at the James J. Eagan Center Friday and Saturday. This is the 30th year for the event and the second year in Florissant with the goal of more than 200 units to be collected. The drive will be Friday, 10 a.m.-7 p.m. and Saturday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.
