Hazelwood resident selected as 2017 Bank of America Student Leader
Hazelwood resident and Hazelwood East High School student Jada Phillips selected for the 2017 Bank of America Student Leader Program

Hazelwood East High School senior Jada Phillips is one of five St. Louis-area teens selected to be part of the 2017 Bank of America Student Leaders program this summer. The program awards the students a paid, eight-week summer internship at a local nonprofit and a trip to Washington, D.C. to participate in the Bank of America Student Leadership Summit.
As a senior, Jada was involved with DigIt, a free after-school volleyball training program for underprivileged girls in the Ferguson, Mo. area. Jada learned to be a role model for the program’s participants by mentoring them and helping each young girl embrace diversity in their community. During her junior and senior year, Jada served as the captain of the girls’ varsity soccer team and vice president of National Honors Society. After experimenting with different leadership strategies on the field and in the classroom, Jada learned that to be an effective leader she had to listen to each team member and take each of their ideas into account.
As part of the Bank of America Student Leaders program, Jada received a paid eight-week internship. Jada is interning at Connections to Success. The internships provide students with valuable work experience while also supporting the nonprofits with extra help this summer.
