Robertson, Hazelwood Battle Mulch Fire on Missouri Bottom Road

The fire burned at Earth City Supply Yard By-Product on Missouri Bottom Rd.

Several fire departments came together to help the Robertson Fire Protection District battle a mulch fire in a compost pile that burned for most of the morning along the Hazelwood/Bridgeton line on Friday.

According to fire officials, the fire broke out at Earth City Supply Yard By-Product in the 13600 block of Missouri Bottom Rd., around midnight. KTVI reports workers were out early Friday morning spraying water on the fire. The business accepts yard waste from the public for conversion into compost and mulch.

Workers at Earth City Supply told KSDK it was a surface fire and the smoke coming from the pile was due to the abundance of grass clippings and wood pallets. As that burned away, the fire began to choke itself out.
