Hazelwood Woman Fights Off Carjacker At Gas Station

Police say the woman "handled [the situation] very assertively," pulling the carjacker out of the vehicle by his hoodie.

HAZELWOOD, MO — A woman fought off a carjacker at a Hazelwood Phillips 66 gas station early Tuesday morning, Fox 2 reports. As she was filling up her tank, a man jumped into her car, intending drive away with it.

But before he could start the car, the woman grabbed her keys, and pulled the man out of the vehicle by his hoodie. The man then fled.

“She handled [the situation] very assertively,” Hazelwood Police Chief Gregg Hall told the television station. He stopped short of praising her tactics, however.

“If someone wants to take your car from you, give them the car," Hall added. "I don’t recommend anyone fighting for property when your life is in danger."

Police in Hazelwood are investigating the attempted carjacking and say they have obtained the gas station's surveillance video.
