Lawson Elementary Teacher On Leave After Spitting At Student

"It made me feel disgusted," the student said. "It made me feel like a piece of trash, like he treated me like nothing."

HAZELWOOD, MO — A Lawson Elementary School teacher is being accused of spitting sunflower seeds at a student. Hazelwood School District has placed him on administrative leave and is investigating the incident.

"It made me feel disgusted," student Kaylee Bell, 11, said in an interview with KSDK St. Louis. "It made me feel like a piece of trash, like he treated me like nothing."

Her mother, Erica Sanders, who said the teacher called her to apologize, has complained to the school in the past about other incidents involving the same teacher. She said the apology didn't change the way her daughter was treated and that she wants the teacher fired.

Sanders met with the school's principal as well as police to discuss the incident. For now, the teacher isn't facing charges. Patch has reached out to Hazelwood School District for the details of their investigation, but haven't heard back. We've also reached out to the teacher in question.
