- For parents looking to save a few bucks on the 2013-2014 school year, then they cash in on the state’s sales tax holiday. Aug. 2-4, parents can purchase anything from clothes to computers and be exempt from the sales tax. Hazelwood is a participant in the 2013 sales tax holiday.
- Families and friends can swim and delight in this year’s dive-in movie event at White Birch Bay. Take in E.T. The Extraterrestrial while swimming and sliding throughout the park. The event starts at 7:30 p.m., and the film starts at dusk. The cost is $3 for residents and $5 for nonresidents.
- Also at St. Louis Outlet Mall, the Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center will host a two-day blood drive, Aug. 2-3. Donors can stop in or register to donate during the drive. The blood drive will be in space 620, and will be Aug. 2, 2- 6 p.m., and Aug. 3, 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
- If you’re disc golf skills are up to par, you might consider joining the 20th White Birch Classic, Saturday at White Birch Park. The classic will feature five divisions competing in two rounds, and the top four of each division will advance to the championship to play nine holes. Registration is $15 for a resident and $20 for a nonresident. The classic begins at 10 a.m.
- Put all your cards on the line during the August Texas Hold ‘em Tournament. It picks up this month at Hazelwood Civic Center East and the last man or woman standing gets their name on the big trophy. Registration is $10 per player, and the fee includes drinks, snacks and awards. Check-in starts at 5:30 p.m., and the games start at 6 p.m.
