Uber Driver Stabbed During North County Carjacking

Uber says the carjacker has been permanently banned from its app.

ST. ANN, MO — An Uber driver was stabbed in a carjacking Sunday afternoon in north St. Louis County, KMOV Channel 4 reports. St. Ann police say the 47-year-old driver was dropping off his passengers when one demanded the driver himself get out of the car. The 17-year-old suspect stabbed the driver in the neck when he refused to leave. Injured, the driver ran to a nearby house and called police.

Police spotted the stolen vehicle a short time later and gave pursuit. The suspect was arrested and will be charged Monday. Police don't think the two other passengers, both teenagers, were involved in the carjacking and are said to be cooperating in the investigation.

Uber called the carjacking a "senseless act of violence" and said the incident was "deeply troubling." The ride-hailing service has permanently banned the carjacker from its app said it stands ready to help police.
