Bonner Springs Chaplain and VFW Post Recognized for #StillServing

Chaplain Jim Jenkins and members of VFW Post 6401 Recognized for #StillServing Community During the Pandemic

Bonner Springs Chaplain Jim Jenkins and members of VFW Post 6401 have been chosen as VFW #StillServing Heroes because of their dedication to country and community. The national Veteran of Foreign Wars #StillServing campaign honors veterans who continue to serve in their community after active duty.

Chaplain Jenkins and members of Post 6401 helped their community fight the pandemic by donating to local food pantries to keep the needy fed and providing gift cards, coloring kits and food trays to veteran patients at the Eisenhower VA facility in Leavenworth who couldn’t receive visitors. Additionally, they worked with local ministers to help meet the spiritual and other needs of the community and provided flag education and flag disposal ceremonies in local neighborhoods. Post members had to find inventive ways to continue their service during the pandemic such as virtual POW/MIA ceremonies and a virtual Memorial Day event.

VFW Post 1018 members and Chaplain Jim Jenkins’ dedicated service to country and community led them to be chosen as one of the few VFW #StillServing Heroes nationwide. VFW invites all veterans to submit their stories at vfw.org/stillserving.
