Drumming Up New Business
17-year-old street performer brings positive messages to greater K.C. area.

When Sam Bryant IV was 4 years old, he demonstrated a habit of tapping on any object within arm’s reach. As soon as his parents purchased him his first drum set at age 6, it set in motion a passion for music that would change his life and the lives of those around him.
Sam was a self-taught drummer until the age of 13 when he started taking lessons, joining the youth band at Lansing Baptist Church. Within a year, he was invited to play on the praise team for weekend services, began playing in his high school percussion ensemble, jazz band, concert ensemble and the jazz quartet.
It was during his sophomore year when Sam watched a video online of a street performer that he was inspired to take a couple of old Home Depot buckets and set up outside of his school to play his passion for his peers. He received such a positive response that he has now taken his talent to metropolitan centers in Kansas City, Branson, and downtown Leavenworth, Kansas. Bryant also recently performed for a local elementary school, allowing students, many of whom were from at-risk families, to play and explore their own interest in music.

“It creates a positive vibe that a certain spot needs,” says Bryant, “I noticed how it changed the mood around where I was.” Bryant intentionally selects locations with people and places that need encouragement, positive messages or find joy in seeing a smiling young person playing bucket drums.
