The event is set for Saturday, June 19, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Robert J. Mohart Multipurpose Center, 3200 Wayne Ave. There is no need for an appointment, insurance or advanced registration. A consent form must be filled out and vaccine recipients need to return to the KC Kindness event on Saturday, July 17, to receive their second dose.

Several organizations, including Harvesters and Happy Bottoms, the city’s Community Action Network (CAN) centers, businesses and non-profits are providing much-needed resources for KCMO residents who can provide proof of residency.

KC Kindness is an initiative created by city employees to help KCMO families struggling due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The city recently adopted Juneteenth as a paid holiday and is encouraging employees to use it as a day of service.

“Our goal is to assist needy Kansas Citians by providing volunteer and supplemental services,” said Leranda Brewer, KC Kindness organizer. “Through our ‘Heart to Help’ events, we want to make it a little easier for Kansas City, Missouri, families to meet their needs.”

The kickoff ‘Heart to Help’ event on May 19 provided 120 families with 9,000 pounds of food and other essential personal-care items.
