Who’s Hiring: The city of 

  • Location: Kirkwood
  • Job: Building Commissioner
  • Category: Full time
  • Experience: Comprehensive knowledge of building codes and building construction methods and materials; the existing Structures Code; Fire Prevention Code; and ADA rules, regulations and requirements. Ten years of experience in plan review, building code enforcement and a thorough knowledge of building construction. International Code Council (ICC) certifications including Certified Building Official (CBO) preferred. Strong management and public relations.  
  • Responsibilities: Ensuring new construction, remodeling or repairs meet minimum standards as defined in the model building code and zoning ordinances adopted by the city. Responsible for issuance of residential and commercial building permits, mechanical permits, residential electric permits, contractors’ licenses, residential and commercial re-occupancy permits and archiving building permits and plans as required by state regulations. Participates in the review of building plans to ensure proposed construction complies with applicable codes; proposes changes in ordinances and regulations; and prepares the operating budget. Provides staff support to Board of Adjustment, Board of Building Appeals and Architecture Review. Administers a $600,000-plus budget and supervises six full-time employees.

  • Experience: Must have two years of college or equivalent experience and at least one year of experience working in an administrative role. The position requires knowledge of data base management, office procedures and strong communication skills.
