Police Find Car Stuck on Railroad Tracks, Arrest Driver

The following information was provided by the Kirkwood Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

On Sunday, at 1:31 a.m., police on routine patrol discovered a vehicle stuck on the railroad tracks near the Union Pacific railroad crossing near Kirkwood Road and Argonne Drive.

Investigation led to the arrest of the adult driver after he was found to be driving under the influence of alcohol. The vehicle was removed from the train tracks prior to any trains passing through the area.

It's not uncommon for Kirkwood Police to respond to cars getting stuck on the city's railroad tracks.

In October, police responded to a motor vehicle accident on South Kirkwood Road near the Union Pacific Railroad. One vehicle left the roadway and became stuck on the railroad tracks. The driver was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol. Police were able to remove the vehicle before any trains passed through the area.

In June, officers on patrol discovered a vehicle stuck on the Burlington Railroad tracks near the intersection of Big Bend and Geyer roads. The vehicle had extensive damage and was inoperable. The adult driver was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol. The vehicle was removed from the tracks before the next train passed through the area.

The Kirkwood Police Department regularly participates in outreach campaigns to warn drivers about the dangers of railroad crossings.
