Horton Watkins Rams Football Coach Mike Tarpey Breaks 100 Wins

LADUE, MO — The Rams' victory over Clayton High School last Friday marked head football coach Mike Tarpey's 100th win for Ladue Horton Watkins High School, school officials said.
Tarpey has served as head coach for 12 years. Nick Gianino, the school's activities director, said it's extremely difficult to achieve 100 wins over that amount of time, but that Tarpey never seems to focus on the final score.
“It may sound like a cliche, but I don’t believe Coach Tarpey cares about winning games,” Gianino said. “He truly cares about the holistic development, individual and team growth, teaching life lessons and preparing his student-athletes for life after high school. He is committed to the process, focuses on details and holds his program accountable to his expectation of excellence.”

Tarpey has led the Rams to seven conference championships, seven district championships, three Final Four appearances and one state championships over his career. As of September 27, he had achieved 101 wins for the school.
This season, for the first time, the Rams have played on a brand new turf field. The team had been displaced during renovations to Ladue Horton Watkins High School over the past several season.

The renovations are expected to be complete by spring, but the team is already enjoying the new field, school officials said. In addition to the field, a new all-purpose track and grandstands are being installed. The stadium is also lit for the first time.
