Summer heat can cause serious health complications, especially for the elderly

Heat can feel horrible for everyone, but unfortunately, elderly individuals are at a much greater risk for suffering from a heat-related illness such as sunstroke.   • Rest
  • Take a cool shower, bath, or sponge bath
  • If possible, seek an air-conditioned environment or go to a cooling shelter
  • Wear lightweight clothing
  • Do not engage in strenuous activities, especially during heat advisory days
  • Always wear sun block and re-apply throughout the day
  • Check in regularly with neighbors, caregivers, family, or friends
