A Day to Remember Fallen First Responders

See what your Maplewood and Brentwood neighbors had to say to first responders on this holiday to remember those who gave their lives.

May 15 is Peace Officers Memorial Day, dedicated to the memories of first responders who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Today, Maplewood remembers Ryan Hummert, a firefighter and son of former mayor Andy Hummert and Jackie Hummert who was killed by a sniper on his first call in 2008. Read the story: Ryan Hummert Memorial is Coming Soon

St. Louis County Police and first responders held their thirty-sixth annual Uniform Day Memorial Ceremony last week, honoring their collegues with the posting of colors, a roll call of the deceased and a 16 volley shotgun salute.

And here are some of our favorite answers:

Lorie Franklin - For helping me in my time of need when I was pregnant and felt something was wrong. For being there when I was robbed and protecting me. And finally taking care of my daughter and grandson when they was in a 4 car crash. I really appreciated all the service they do to make me feel safe every day.

Pat Wilken Maloney - Always being there fast, when we call......

Karen Burger Nevins - For not laughing at me when it was a panic attack I was having and NOT a full-blown allergic reaction to my medication. Mostly for keeping our community safe.

How about you? What do you want to thank first responders for today?
