Brentwood Aldermen to Discuss State Audit, With Feb. 15 Deadline

The state audit of the City of Brentwood should soon be complete and made public.

Following a Jan. 29 meeting with state auditors, the Brentwood Board of Alderman will meet on Feb. 12 in a closed session to discuss the board's response to auditor's office.

The audit was initiated by a citizen-led petition drive in Summer 2011. The state began the audit in January, 2012.

The Brentwood board has no editing power over the audit, but its response will be inserted into the final draft, state auditor spokesman Spence Jackson said.

The auditor's office has given the board of aldermen a Feb. 15 deadline to submit its repsonse.

Jackson said the meeting on Tuesday will be closed, as the Jan. 29 meeting was.

"Because this is still considered a draft report and confidential, they should not discuss its contents or their responses in an open meeting," he said.

Jackson said after the board of aldermen's response is included, the audit will be reviewed by the office's senior staff and then on to State Auditor Tom Schweich for his approval. 

"The next meeting we have will be a public delivery of our audit at a date and time to be determined by our office," Jackson said.
