Brentwood BOA Votes to Maintain Rec Center, That's All

The Brentwood Board of Aldermen, in a 40-minute meeting Monday night, made a decision that was a dozen years in the making.

They passed motion to spend what is needed to bring the Brentwood Recreation Center up to regulations, with nothing extra.

“We’ve done more in the last month than we have in the last 12 years,” Mayor Pat Kelly said after the vote.

• Roof replacement
• Mechanical upgrade
• Fire sprinkler system installed
• Update the fire alarm
• Electrical panel upgrade
• ADA improvements
• Upgrade the refrigeration system for the ice rink

He listed other items that won’t be considered for now, and gave price tags:

• Restrooms - $250,000
• Interior lighting - $100,000
• Interior upgrades - $75,000
• Remodel the exterior and develop a single entrance - $750,000
• Lighting in parking lot - $250,000
• Gym addition (8,500 square feet) - $1.75 million
• Workout facility addition (400,000 square feet) - $1 million
• Workout equipment - $200,000

Ward 2 Alderman Lee Wynn said he said he would like to just do what needs to be done to upgrade the facility to meet current regulations, with nothing extra for now.

Aldermen Cindy Manestar (Ward 2), Andy Leahy (Ward 3), Patrick Toohey (Ward 4) and Maureen Saunders (Ward 1) agreed and voted with Wynn.

Ward 4 Alderman Tom Kramer, who wasn’t in favor of keeping the ice rink, and the associated costs to maintain it, voted no. The board voted to keep the rink at a previous meeting.
