Maplewood police are investigating a student's report that he was followed Wednesday by a man asking for money.
The student was unharmed, according to a message sent by a parent and copied onto a message distributed by middle school principal Robert Dillon this morning.
The student had been walking home when he was approached by a man in his mid- to late 30s, the parent's message states. When the student told the man he didn't have any money and kept walking, the man began to follow him. As the student began to jog and then run, the man also started running toward him but later stopped and went another way, the parent stated.
Police came to the family's house, took a description of the suspect and patrolled the area.
Neither a representative with the nor Dillon were immediately available for comment. Dillon stated that the school is working with the police and that those with questions should contact him.
"As always, we hold student safety as a number one priority, and we also want to make sure to communicate as much information as possible to parents," Dillon stated.
