Flying Tiger Bought Scooters the Day After Prop Q Passed

Flying Tiger owner Eric Bess bought Nadir Djavaherian’s inventory of Genuine scooters the day after Proposition Q passed.

Djavaherian was leasing the northwest corner of Manchester Road and Big Bend Boulevard with a Ford dealership, which had since moved out. The scooters were the last thing he sold there.

Prop Q gave QuikTrip the OK, on April 2, to move to the corner from its current location at 3010 S. Big Bend.

Eric and Theresa Bess started Flying Tiger as a vintage motorcycle sales and repair shop, and recently started carrying three lines of new cycles, including Genuine scooters. They also carry Royal Enfield and Cleveland CycleWerks motorcycles.

Genuine scooters include the Buddy and Stella lines. Buddys come in 50, 125, 175 and 220 cc motor sizes. The Stellas look similar to Vespa scooters.

“Super easy to ride, no gears to shift, just twist and go,” Bess said.

Bess said Royal Enfield is the oldest continually running marque in motorcycling. “It’s ten years older than Harley-Davidson,” he said.

He said people say Royal Enfields look retro. “It’s not retro, it’s original,” he said. “This is an original company that have done things the same way for well over 100 years.”

He said while the cycles have fuel injection, high quality brakes and modernized engines, the styling has stayed the same almost the entire time. He also said they’re affordable, at $6,000-7,000.

Bess carries two models of Cleveland CycleWerks cycles, both priced at  $3,549. They share the same 250 cc engine and get close to 100 miles per gallon.
