Laclede Gas broke up the sidewalk in front of Maplewood's new bread bakery and coffee roaster Monday morning.
It's the last step for Great Harvest to start baking bread and La Cosecha to start roasting coffee at 7360 Manchester Road. The room-sized oven and the industrial coffee roaster both need a gas hook-up to operate.
Apparently there was a mix-up of some sort. The gas line should have been installed a while ago.
Great Harvest owner Steve Jawor said the work should be complete by Tuesday, and he'll heat up the oven for some test baking by the end of the week.
Jawor predicted a soft opening some time next week and a grand opening around the time of the Let Them Eat Art event in Maplewood, Friday, July 12, from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m.
