Coach Keith Herring Voted Brentwood Person of the Year

Brentwood Eagles football coach Keith Herring with 66 percent of the vote, to be the  Patch Brentwood Person of the Year for 2012.

Herring was hired in March 2011 following the resignation of Scott Surgener and a hiring process that was unpopular and questioned by a Brentwood alderman, a school board member and many in the community. He wasn't the choice of a committee of school and community members.

He went on to a 7-4 season in 2011 and 10-2 in 2012.

"After coming to Brentwood under a cloud of dust, Coach Herring has taken a small group of under-sized pitbull atheletes as far as they can go," said his nominator.   "He continues to inspire future generations to play Eagle football, and mostly he includes the WHOLE Eagle family. Coach Herring knows how to be a winner on the field and in the community."

When he was hired Herring said the number one thing a guy learns on his team is that nobody is going to give you a victory.

“You’re going to have to take it,” Herring said when he was hired. “We’re not ever going to go into a game thinking that someone’s going to lay down. We’re going to step up and fight. I preach that every game is a dogfight. And we want to get better every game."
