Man Attacks Couple At Maplewood Commons Walmart, Police Say

A man attacked a couple outside Walmart at Maplewood Commons Monday.

Maplewood Police said Cornell Carter, 23, of the 6300 block of Page Avenue in Wellston, confronted a couple in the store’s parking lot. He then began punching the man in the face, police said.

When the woman intervened, the man punched her in the face multiple times, police said. Carter then return to repeatedly punching the man hard in the face, causing his tooth to puncture his lip, police said.

The man needed 10 stitches to close his wounds.

Carter was charged Tuesday with second-degree assault and third-degree assault. He is being held in the St. Louis County Justice Center. Bail was set at $25,000.
