This year, children in Mrs. Veselsky and Mr. Brandon's kindergarten classes discussed many different social studies concepts that included home, family and responsibilities. These discussions sparked interest in the children during virtual learning, leading the teachers to make a video highlighting these concepts. This video project became the catalyst for the children getting to know each other better and building community, despite being distant from each other.

This work gained momentum and continued when the school returned to in-person learning. Children's interests became more focused on maps. Children learned how to use a map to locate a place such as their homes... practiced giving and using directions... and understood the importance of traffic signs.

Next, children used natural materials to construct representations of their homes that was included in the video and later added to their community map, now on display in their classroom.
