THE SCHOLARSHIP FOUNDATION HIRES NEW PROGRAM STAFF MEMBERS

The Scholarship Foundation of St. Louis proudly welcomes Sarah McClure and Thurman Young as program director and program supervisor, respectively.

Sarah previously worked with The Scholarship Foundation and St. Louis Graduates while pursuing her master’s in social work from Washington University. She completed a graduate practicum as an intern and policy researcher[KM1]  for The Scholarship Foundation, and later was hired to conduct scholarship research for the initial offerings of St. Louis Graduates’ Scholarship Central. Sarah then took a position in Fort Wayne, Indiana as Manager of Young Adult Programs with SCAN (Stop Child Abuse and Neglect). In this role, Sarah was responsible for program development and implementation of an 11-county program for out-of-school youth ages 16-21. In her 2.5 years at SCAN, Sarah’s program secured more than $1.7 million in public funds, enrolled 440 youth, engaged a team of nine staff members, and developed relationships across educational and employment sectors.

Thurman Young joined The Scholarship Foundation as program supervisor. Thurman’s 15 years of professional experience include positions in higher education counseling, financial aid advising, and default prevention at Higher Education Consortium (St. Louis Community College), and Harris-Stowe State University. Most recently, Thurman was Default Prevention/Financial Literacy at Fontbonne University where he led a program on default prevention that he designed and that serves as a model for Missouri Department of Higher Education grantees statewide. Thurman’s master’s degree is in English from the University of Illinois.
