Blades Elementary School Receives Grant from WGU Missouri

$300 in grant funding will be used to purchase and place peddle exercisers in the school's library

Students at Blades Elementary in Oakville will soon be able to exercise both their minds and bodies at the same time thanks to a $300 grant from the online, nonprofit university WGU Missouri. Jill Hudson, a library media specialist at Blades, was awarded the grant to help fund her idea to bring pedal exercisers to the school’s library media center. Hudson was officially presented with a check on Friday, May 17, to help purchase the pedal exercisers, which she hopes will spark an enthusiasm for reading, while also promoting a healthy and active lifestyle for students.

Blades is one of 15 schools across Missouri chosen by WGU Missouri to receive funding for an innovative classroom project. Last month, the university issued a call for K-12 teachers across the state to nominate proposed classroom projects for the opportunity to receive full or partial funding. Hudson’s proposal was chosen out of more than 200 nominations received statewide.
